Presentation Description: This paper reviews the effects of bearing current in variable frequency drives (VFDs) and explores their suppression using CMC CoolBlue® and NaLa® cores. As VFDs increase in switching frequency to enhance control and energy efficiency, they inadvertently generate electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) issues. These include common-mode and differential-mode current, which can lead to premature bearing failures, electromagnetic interference (EMI), and increased maintenance costs. The application of nanocrystalline CoolBlue® and NaLa® cores has proven effective in mitigating these issues by reducing high-frequency noise directly at the source.
