Presentation Description: This presentation reviews some promising approaches for magnetics in multiphase DC-DC converters. As Trans-Inductor-Voltage-Regulator (TLVR) became popular, its limitations and drawbacks also became more understood. Boosted coupled inductor (BCL) was introduced to address the main TLVR problem with saturation Isat in the mutual inductance Lm. This presentation showcases the fundamentals of BCL, proposes a new BCL model, establishes BCL advantage and illustrates that with the actual measurements. This overview and comparison should be helpful for engineers that design multiphase converters, need to compare different design options and optimize the power systems.
