IS23.3 - Exploiting benefits of power module in modern PFC stage for On-Board charger applications through the evaluation of thermal and electrical performance
Presentation Description: The increasing number of electric vehicles available and the reduction of the charging time make the design of On-Board Chargers (OBCs) increasingly challenging. Size and weight constraint along with power conversion efficiency requirements are the design keys factors. As the power level of the OBC increases while maintaining light and compact systems, the use of new materials for power semiconductors, such as SiC and GaN, is mandatory. To fulfill these new requirements, both the technology of power devices and packages are subject to disruptive changes. Therefore, traditional silicon devices are updated to the wide band gap (WBG) technologies and innovative packages, such as top side cooling surface mounted device (SMD) and power module are necessary to target the demand of power density and power level.
