Presentation Description: This industry session will introduce a 3-level flying capacitor (3LFC) PFC with 400 V SiC for server and telecom power supplies. The implementation of multilevel converter offers the possibility of reducing the size of the EMI filter as well as the PFC choke while providing a benefit in efficiency. The presentation will provide a comparison with 2-level solutions, with and without interleaving, which conclusion is the convenience of the 3-level topology in applications that demand high efficiency at high power density. The two main challenges of the 3LFC, FC charge at start-up and driving supply of stacked devices, will be analyzed in detail as well. The challenges have been successfully solved and implemented in a power board PCB in the built converter. Preliminary results of this converter show a 0.2% efficiency improvement over a 2-level interleaved totem-pole and a similar size.
