Trans-Inductor Voltage Regulators (TLVR) are commonly used to power processors to meet stringent transient requirements. TLVR topology requires a separate compensation inductor (LC) to operate effectively. This paper proposes to effectively control the leakage inductance of the TLVR inductor to eliminate the need for a compensation inductor. In addition, the paper demonstrates that a combination of high & low-leakage TLVR inductors can be effectively used to control the compensation inductance required for various implementation without sacrificing performance while eliminating the need for a separate LC inductor.
