T25.1 - 2200A/48V-to-1V Low-Profile Direct Power Converter with Standard PCB Transformer

The 48V-1V Low-Profile Direct Power Converter, described in this article, is a high-current single-stage converter for high-performance applications. The prototype is built stacking four 12:1V modules, connecting primary sides in series and secondary sides in parallel, with intrinsic voltage balance in the primary stacks and intrinsic current sharing in the output capacitors. Regarding the magnetic structure, a Planar-Matrix Transformer with custom magnetic cores is implemented to achieve a reduced height of 5mm. One significant advantage is the high efficiency achieved, above 90% for currents from 200A to 2000A, with a peak efficiency of 93.6% at 500A, including driving losses. Another key benefit is the transformer construction using standard 3oz PCB, which simplifies manufacturing and ensures repeatability.
