This digest introduces the short-circuit ride-through operation for a critical conduction mode (CRM) based soft-switching three-phase inverter. A CRM- discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) – discontinuous pulse width modulation (DPWM) hybrid modulation is implemented to a three-phase inverter to realize high efficiency and high power-density with hundreds of kilohertz operation. A fixed frequency modulation is applied during short-circuit condition instead of the original hybrid modulation to enable the ride-through function. The necessity of a separate modulation is analyzed, and the operating parameters are optimized. Finally, experiments are performed to verify the proposed operation.
