D18.6 - Multi-Vendor Encoder Position Sensing Interface using Programmable IP based Solution

The aim of this work is to provide programmable IP-based solution for multi-encoder protocol using three Channel Peripheral Interface mode in PRU-ICSS or standard GPI/GPO mode that has been part of TI Sitara AM24x/AM26x/AM64x family of SOCs to implement interface for multiple vendor encoder protocols in same TI device. Existing solution is FPGA based which comes with few challenges like high power consumption, high cost and high latency in operating control loop. This approach cut down huge amount of cost by not implementing FPGA by using programmable IP and offloads ARM CPU load via ICSS and capability to optimize control loop via moving the position, current data post validation, post processing to the tightly coupled memory of CPU running control loop making our solution cost effective, low latency in terms of running control loop, highly flexible and scalable in terms of implementing multiple vender encoder interfaces.
