D26.11 - Single-Stage Three-Phase AC-AC Isolated Inertialess Converter (IIC) for Industrial Drives

In this digest, a single-stage, bidirectional, isolated matrix-type 3ϕ-3ϕ converter known as the Isolated Inertialess Converter (IIC) is discussed and proposed for industrial drives. The 3ϕ-3ϕ IIC integrates high frequency isolation, which can replace the industrial drive transformer. In addition, the 3ϕ-3ϕ IIC does not use an energy storage element or output CL filter, which reduces size and cost as the converter scales to high power. A modulation based on SVM is adapted for the IIC that minimizes transformer magnetizing flux Φ_m. The modulation technique and a PFC control are validated in simulation with an RL load. A simulated input and output current THD of 1.6% and 0.2% are reported. A hardware prototype has been fully built and design details are discussed.
