Separate coupled inductors can be linked together with secondary windings to improve the performance, similarly to a previous concept of the trans-inductor voltage regulator (TLVR). The secondary windings have an AC current, in sync with the ripple in the main power phases. It is proposed to appropriately route that already existing secondary current for the ripple cancellation at the converter output. Alternatively, the secondary AC current can be used to multiply the transient current step and therefore improve the transient performance of a voltage regulator. Experimental results confirm the benefits of the proposed concepts.
