This digest presents a method to predict the resonant poles in a series-series LC resonance-based wireless battery charger. Discrete-time modeling identifies the poles precisely, enabling the closed-loop control design with due consideration for the resonance. While the quantitative accuracy of the discrete-time model has been verified, the qualitative origin of the resonant poles, at a frequency much lower than the transmitter and receiver coils’ resonance frequency, is not apparent. The proposed method predicts the resonant poles without extensive modeling while relating them to the resonant frequency of the transmitter and receiver coils, as well as the switching and sampling frequencies.
