Power requirements for data centers are increasing at a tremendous rate, and this is driving the need for changes in architecture to the power distribution. In this presentation, we will cover an overview of the latest trends in data center power as well as some associated challenges. The increase in power levels as well as the need to increase computing density is driving the power bus voltage to higher levels (400V, +/-400V, 800V). There are a number of challenges in moving to a DC vs. AC architecture and increased bus voltage, including isolation, hold up considerations, transient response, EMI and of course efficiency. We will present a few examples to help illustrate the challenges.
