Dr. Reynaldo S. Gonzalez is a research engineer at Southwest Research Institute, specializing in power electronics design and converter control. He graduated with a PhD from University of Texas at San Antonio in 2023. His Master’s thesis focused on real-time simulation and HIL implementation of a GaN-based motor drive, while his PhD research explored AI applications in power systems, load forecasting, power electronics control, and optimization for protection systems. His dissertation introduced an Adaptive and Optimal Protection System, incorporating three-phase inverter modeling, protection optimization, and deep neural network-based residential load forecasting. He has also contributed to several space missions, including IMAP, ENABLE, and Dreamweaver.
