STMicroelectronics
Claudia Malannino is an application engineer at STMicroelectronics and she is located in Catania. She studied electronics engineering at the University of Catania and she got her Master’s Degree in 2019.
Immediately after that she started an internship with STMicroelectronics, which stopped right before its natural ending, when she was hired by the company. Her role in STMicroelectronics deals with design of innovative power conversion systems both hardware and firmware. In particular she is in charge of developing optimized solutions with a higher power density thanks to novel enabling technologies, such as fully integrated magnetic planar components and embedded technologies. A special focus is on automotive applications, where her planar solutions for gate driver for electric traction based on SiC technology are widely accepted and used by top customers.
Her R&D activities are carried out with local and foreign Universities and are based on conversion of ideas and innovation into reality. Specifically she is going to coordinate a collaboration with DTU – Technical University of Denmark involving a PhD, on the matter “Planar PCB magnetics for high efficient power converters, linked system solutions and PCB embedded design”. On the same topic she has written a White Paper, in particular on planar technology, advantages, disadvantages and examples of application titled “An overview of planar magnetic technology for SMPS”. She is focusing on is the study and development of prototypal high voltage systems for nuclear fusion, with a return in terms of new device development (very high voltage WBG >6000V) and new package design.
