Presentation Description: From electric vehicles on the road to electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft in the sky, silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductors contribute significantly to the electrification of transportation. However, there are still significant challenges to the full realization of transportation electrification in advanced air mobility applications, including fixed-wing and vertical take-off and landing models. The purpose of this talk is to examine the main challenges and solutions related to emerging applications, including flying taxis, that rely on high efficiency, high power density, and very reliable electric power systems due to critical weight, space, and safety requirements.
