Presentation Description: Electrical devices or appliances can continue to draw power even in “off” mode or when not performing their primary functions. Different regulations have been proposed and adopted to limit this extra power usage in standby. Current solutions disconnect some parts of the circuit from the input line by the use mechanical or solid-state relays. This paper proposes a method for reducing the standby power in motor drivers to meet the standby power regulations for household appliances with minimal part count while avoiding the use of mechanical disconnects. The standby power drawn with the proposed solution is shown to be less than 10mW.
