Presentation Description: This industry session will provide technical details of a 60 kW dual active bridge (DAB) converter using Silicon Carbide (SiC) power modules. The worldwide transition to electric vehicles (EVs) requires significant advancements in charging infrastructure to support further market adoption. This DAB is designed to serve as both the isolation and regulation stages of an EV fast charger and can be used as a technical reference for designers developing new chargers. This design, referred to as CRD60DD12N-GMA, includes an isolation transformer and two full-bridge circuits to operate the system with zero-voltage switching (ZVS). When paired with a grid-tied inverter such as an active front end, this design can be used as an EV charging building block which can be paralleled to achieve powers as high as 300 kW. This design has been experimentally tested at several power levels up to rated power and includes an electrothermal simulation which has been validated with the experimental measurements.
