Presentation Description: High-power applications like hybrid-electric vehicles- electric vehicles (HEV-EV) traction inverters, EV charging, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and solar inverters use high power switches and modules which need high-current driver to deliver >10A of drive strength. Power electronic designers can select a gate driver with high sourcing and sinking current capabilities or use a pre-driver to switch external switch to achieve the necessary drive strength for their applications. This presentation will discuss the key considerations, design approaches, advantages and trade-offs between pre-driver with external FETs vs integrated high-current driver for such high-power applications. The goal of this presentation is to share key care selection criteria of high current driver vs pre-driver.
