T09.7 - A 15A 48V-Input Dual-Path Hybrid Dickson Converter with 6 mm³ Low Saturation Current Inductors for Point-of-Load Conversion

This paper presents a dual-path inductor current hybrid Dickson converter for achieving high step-down ratio and high current density. The proposed topology combines a 4:1 switched-capacitor (SC) Dickson network and two inductive dual-path networks, which efficiently decrease power switch voltages and reduce average inductor currents by 40%. The proposed topology lowers the current flow at two inductors compare to the conventional hybrid Dickson topology, which results in high power density over 1,000A/in3 with 200mΩ, 6mm3 inductors, five flying capacitors, and twelve gallium nitride (GaN) switches. The proposed converter is demonstrated with 89.1% and 82.7% peak efficiency for 48V-4V and 48V-1.7V conversion ratios, respectively.
