T22.8 - FEA based High-Frequency Synthesis for the Design and Optimization of GaN-Based Dual Three Phase Motor Drive System

Multiphase electric machines, particularly permanent magnet synchronous motors, are increasingly used across various industries for their high torque, power density, and low torque ripple. This paper presents the modeling of a high-frequency impedance loop by using finite element analysis. The model shows the importance of minimizing the parasitic loop inductance and its impact on the switching characteristic for GaN-based dual three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor inverter. The conventional strategies are employed to minimize the loop inductances and estimated inductances are incorporated in the high-frequency modeling. The model shows the effects of parasitic inductance in terms of voltage ringing and overshoots across the switches. These findings are validated through simulation and experimental double pulse testing, offering valuable insights into the optimization of switching behaviors in advanced motor drive systems.
